ธัมมานุสสติ Dhammānussati The Recollection of the Dhamma Chanted in the evening service as the second recollection; this is the translated printing. page 228 6 verses

The recollection of the Dhamma in the translated printing: the six qualities, one to a line.

When chanted
Chanted in the evening service as the second recollection; this is the translated printing.

A note on this chant. The book prints this chant in Pali only, with no Thai translation. The English here is a working translation prepared for this edition — it is not the book's own, and has not yet been checked by a teacher.

Historical background

From page 193 the book prints its material a second time with a Thai rendering beneath each Pali line. This is one of those second printings, and the Pali is unchanged from the first.

The shortest passage in the evening service — six qualities and no frame around them at all. This printing gives each its own unit, so the Thai sits directly beneath the word it renders.

Meaning and purpose

The six describe the teaching by what can be done with it rather than by what it asserts: well proclaimed; visible here and now; timeless; inviting all to come and see; leading onwards; to be known each for himself by the wise.

Setting one to a line is the right decision for a translated printing. Each of the six is a single compressed Pali word, and a reader who meets them run together has no way to tell where one ends.

The last carries the others, and it is why the recollection can be recited by a whole hall at once. The knowing is each person's own and cannot be held on anyone else's behalf, so nobody chanting it is speaking for the person beside them.
