คำอนุโมทนากฐิน The Words of Rejoicing in the Kathina Spoken by the Sangha when the recipient of the kathina invites them to rejoice in it. page 303 1 verses

The Sangha's half of the kathina exchange, printed on its own among the short monastic formulas.

When chanted
Spoken by the Sangha when the recipient of the kathina invites them to rejoice in it.

A note on this chant. The book prints this chant in Pali only, with no Thai translation. The English here is a working translation prepared for this edition — it is not the book's own, and has not yet been checked by a teacher.

Historical background

The book prints this sentence twice: once here among the short formulas for the monastic year, and once with the ceremony itself later on, where it appears with the recipient's half beside it.

This printing gives only the reply, which is what most monks in the room will actually say. It is grouped with the determination of the rains, the seven-day absence and the invitation at the end of the rains — the four sentences that mark out a monastic year.

Meaning and purpose

The Sangha's kathina has been spread, venerable sirs; the spreading of the kathina is in accordance with the Dhamma. We rejoice in it.

Two statements and an act. The first two are findings of fact — that it happened, and that it happened correctly — and only the third is anything anybody feels.

Read here, apart from the ceremony, it works as a reminder of a form of words rather than as part of a service. That is what this stretch of the book is for: not chants to be performed but sentences a monastic needs to have ready at the right moment of the year.
