คำอาราธนาศีล 8 พิเศษ คืออุโบสถศีล The Words for Requesting the Special Eight Precepts, the Uposatha Precepts Spoken by lay people on an observance day, asking for the eight precepts as an uposatha. page 250 3 verses

The request for the uposatha observance complete in its eight factors, distinguished from the ordinary eight precepts.

When chanted
Spoken by lay people on an observance day, asking for the eight precepts as an uposatha.

A note on this chant. The book prints this chant in Pali only, with no Thai translation. The English here is a working translation prepared for this edition — it is not the book's own, and has not yet been checked by a teacher.

Historical background

The book prints four requests for precepts on these two pages, in two pairs: five ordinary and five special, eight ordinary and eight special. This is the last of the four.

What makes an eight พิเศษ rather than ปรกติ is not the content — the eight rules are the same — but how they are held and for how long.

Meaning and purpose

The special form asks for อัฏฐังคะสะมันนาคะตัง อุโปสะถัง — the uposatha complete in its eight factors. The eight are taken as a single indivisible undertaking.

The ordinary form printed a page earlier asks instead for the eight precepts วิสุง วิสุง รักขะณัตถายะ, to keep each one separately. Breaking one there does not break the rest; breaking one here breaks the observance.

That distinction is the whole reason for printing four requests where two would seem to do. The words a person uses decide what they have taken on, and the book will not let somebody blur it by accident.
