คำเรียกอุปสัมปทาเปกขะเข้ามา The Words of Calling the Candidate In Spoken at an ordination with one candidate, after he has been instructed outside. page 294 7 verses

The motion asking permission to bring the single candidate before the assembly, ending in the call to come forward.

When chanted
Spoken at an ordination with one candidate, after he has been instructed outside.

A note on this chant. The book prints this chant in Pali only, with no Thai translation. The English here is a working translation prepared for this edition — it is not the book's own, and has not yet been checked by a teacher.

Historical background

The single-candidate form of the call. The candidate has waited outside while the assembly heard that he was ready; this is where the assembly agrees to see him.

Like the rest of this section it is put as a motion, and the English is printed once at the head of the unit with the continuation lines marked.

Meaning and purpose

The reason offered is the same as in the two-candidate version: the candidate has been instructed. What is being certified is preparation, and the assembly is agreeing to receive somebody who has been made ready.

Nothing about his qualities is asserted. He is not described as worthy or as suitable; the only claim made about him at this stage is procedural.

And it closes on the plainest words in the whole sequence — come forward. After a page of formal Pali the actual instruction to a nervous person standing outside is two words long.

Suṇātu me bhante saṅgho,

Let the Saṅgha, venerable sirs, hear me. Obhāsa, candidate for ordination under the venerable Sobhaṇa, has been instructed by me. If the Saṅgha is ready, let Obhāsa come forward.
