The Lesser Universal Blessing reduced to a single sentence invoking the power of the Triple Gem against every misfortune.
- When chanted
- Chanted where the full blessing would be too long, particularly at the close of a short anumodanā.
A note on this chant. The book prints this chant in Pali only, with no Thai translation. The English here is a working translation prepared for this edition — it is not the book's own, and has not yet been checked by a teacher.
Historical background
The full Lesser Universal Blessing runs to thirty-two units. This is the same blessing compressed into one, and the book marks it ย่อ — abbreviated — rather than pretending it is a different chant.
The procedure page beside it names both forms and leaves the choice to whoever is leading, which is the practical reason for printing the short one at all.
Meaning and purpose
What survives is the frame and the list of troubles. By the power of the Triple Gem and by its majesty — and then suffering, disease, fear, enmity, sorrow, foes, calamities and the many dangers, all in one breath.
What is dropped is the accumulation: the eighty-four thousand divisions of the Dhamma, the three baskets, the Conqueror's disciples, and the long list of things that are to grow.
Set beside the full version it shows what the tradition regards as the irreducible part of a blessing. Not the powers invoked, which can be summarised, but the naming of what people are actually afraid of.

By the power of the Triple Gem and by its majesty, may suffering, disease, fear, enmity, sorrow, foes and calamities, and the many dangers too, perish without remainder. May victory and success, wealth, gain, well-being, fortune, happiness, strength, splendour, long life and beauty, riches and increase and renown, a hundred years of life, and success in living, be yours.
