The complete order for the Seven Tamnan, from the assembling of the devas to the closing verses.
- When chanted
- Followed when the Seven Tamnan is chanted in full, at a major auspicious ceremony.
A note on this chant. The book prints this chant in Pali only, with no Thai translation. The English here is a working translation prepared for this edition — it is not the book's own, and has not yet been checked by a teacher.
Historical background
The Seven Tamnan is the shorter of the two great paritta collections — the Twelve Tamnan being the other — and the book gives it three running orders of decreasing length. This is the longest.
Everything in it is printed elsewhere in the book. What this page supplies is the sequence and the joins.
Meaning and purpose
It begins before the collection does, with one monk raising his fan to chant the assembling of the devas. Only after the audience has been called does the opening proper start.
The opening is then given as a named block — the homage, the refuge, the Namakārasiddhi verses — and the same block serves all three forms, which is why the shorter orders can simply refer back to it.
The closing is fixed too: bhavatu sabbamaṅgalaṃ, and then the verse about the stars, the yakkhas and the spirits. What varies between the three forms is only the middle, which is the part that takes the time.
The chant
As the book prints it: page 259 and page 260 →

When the layman has finished requesting the parittas, one monk raises his fan and chants the introduction assembling the devas, pharitvāna mettaṃ sametā bhadantā … ending dhammassavanakālo ayambhadantā. He sets the fan down, and the presiding elder leads the chanting in order as follows:
