ตังขะณิกะปัจจะเวกขะณะปาโฐ Taṅkhaṇikapaccavekkhaṇapāṭho Recited by monastics at the moment a requisite is taken up, and in the morning service; this is the translated printing. pages 205–207 25 verses

The reflection at the moment of use, in the translated printing: the four requisites and the proper reason for using each.

When chanted
Recited by monastics at the moment a requisite is taken up, and in the morning service; this is the translated printing.
Historical background

From page 193 the book prints its material a second time with a Thai rendering beneath each Pali line. This is one of those second printings, and the Pali is unchanged from the first. The book gives this printing no English title of its own, so the name used in the app is supplied.

ตังขะณิกะ means at that moment, and the title is doing real work: this is not a reflection on requisites in general but one made at the instant of use.

Meaning and purpose

Each of the four opens the same way — reflecting wisely, I make use of the robe — and then names its purposes. The construction that governs them all is only so far as: for just this much and no more. A limit is set before a use is granted.

The purposes given are deliberately modest and physical. Nothing is said about the quality of the robe, the taste of the food or the comfort of the lodging; only what the requisite is needed for.

With the Thai beneath, the effect on somebody actually holding a bowl is different from chanting it as sound. The reflection puts the question in the middle of the act itself, which is where it can be answered — and this printing is the one that lets a reader see that as they say it.
