The one-line Vipassit blessing in Thai script, asking that all suffering, fear and illness perish.
- When chanted
- Chanted as a brief blessing; this is the Thai-script printing.
A note on this chant. The book prints this chant in Pali only, with no Thai translation. The English here is a working translation prepared for this edition — it is not the book's own, and has not yet been checked by a teacher.
Historical background
The book prints this single line twice, here in Thai script and again in the roman-script appendix. Neither printing carries a Thai translation.
At nine words of Pali it is the shortest chant in the book, and it has a title and an entry of its own in both places.
Meaning and purpose
Three things are named and the same thing is asked of each: สัพพะทุกขา สัพพะภะยา สัพพะโรคา วินาสสันตุ — may all suffering, all fear and all illness perish.
The three are the categories the whole protective collection works over: the doctrinal, the one that brings people to a temple, and the bodily. Nothing else is asked for.
That the book keeps it as a chant in its own right, twice, rather than folding it into something longer, is the interesting decision. Somebody wanted a blessing short enough to say in a doorway.
